Shared Maternity Care
What is Shared Maternity Care?
If you are pregnant or considering having a baby then there are many decisions coming up for you including how you will choose for you and your baby to be cared for during your pregnancy.
Shared Care is a popular option which allows a woman's care to be shared between an accredited GP such as Dr Moz and the hospital of the woman's choice.
This allows patients to have the freedom to book their appointments with Dr Moz at times and days that suit them instead of the more rigid options provided by hospital care. Further most women will not have to endure long waits for their care and will never feel rushed during their appointments with an opportunity to have all their concerns addressed during each visit. The cherry on top is the bedside ultrasound used typically for most visits after ten weeks of pregnancy allowing parents to catch a glimpse of their little one on a more regular basis.
Who is suitable for shared care?
Shared care is suitable for well women who anticipate low risk pregnancies. At all times Mum and Bub's well being is paramount and if for any reason it becomes no longer suitable in the shared care setting, your care will be seamlessly transferred across to the hospital for ongoing care. Things that need close monitoring or invasive care are some of the reasons that care may need to be transferred.
This is by far and away the minority of women who are having babies and most women will be suitable for shared care. If you are unsure simply book your first visit as soon as you find out you are pregnant for a discussion about your options.
How much does it cost?
Each hospital has a suggested schedule of visits. Typically Dr Moz will encourage these visits are to be used as a minimum guide to ensure that the highest possible standard of care can be provided. Most women can expect at least 8 visits during their pregnancy. Depending on the visit you may spend either 20 or 40 minutes in your appointment and the out of pocket fee will be $115 per visit. This covers the consultation as well as any necessary ultrasounds performed at the visit
