What is a Vasectomy?
A vasectomy is a simple and safe surgical procedure for men who want to prevent pregnancy permanently. It is a form of birth control that works by blocking the tubes that carry sperm from the testicles to the penis. This means that sperm will no longer be present in a man's ejaculate, so it cannot fertilize a woman's egg and cause pregnancy.
During a vasectomy, Dr Moz makes a small incision in the scrotum, the sac that holds the testicles. Dr Moz then locates the tubes called vas deferens, which carry sperm, and cuts or blocks them. This prevents sperm from mixing with semen during ejaculation.
The procedure is done using local anesthesia, which means you'll be awake but won't feel any pain in the area being operated on. It usually takes about 15 to 30 minutes to complete and can be safely done in the rooms.
How is a Vasectomy done?
Will it hurt?
You shouldn't experience any pain during the procedure itself once the anaesthetic is working. The anaesthetic will typically wear off around 1-2 hours after you leave the clinic. At this time you may need some panadol or anti-inflammatories for the first 2-3 days.
It is worthwhile taking it wasy or the first week as strenous activity in the first week can increase the risk of bruising which can cause pain. This is especially important if you have a physical or strenous job.
You are NOT considered sterile straight away! It is extremely important to use alternate forms of contraception for at least the first 3 months after which we will check your sperm count. Only after a sperm count is checked by Dr Moz and confirmed via text/email/phone call are you considered to have a succesfully completed Vasectomy.
Dr Moz will provide you with a form to complete your sperm count on the day of the procedure and will send you a reminder text at 3 months. It is then up to you to provide a sample and drop it off to one of the laboratories that will then check the specimen.

All vasectomy patients will need to book in for a consultation to discuss the procedure first. This can be used to ask any questions you may have and ensure you have a clear understanding of the procedure.
If you book the consultation and change your mind that is just fine and you will NOT be charged a full vasectomy fee (usual consultation fee will instead apply)
